Elim EFC Church Cross (Puyallup, Washington State, USA)

Cross

The project is to replace an existing dilapidated wooden cross with a new one that expresses the meaning of the cross.

The design is based on the scripture taken from the book of Isaiah’s description of Christ. The proposed cross is made of a perforated rusting steel to express the humility of Christ.  The cross is then sliced 39 times to symbolize the number of whips Christ had to endure.  The slice’s angles are based on the number 7x7x70 to signify how many times Christ asked his followers to forgive someone.  The cross is lit from behind with red light penetrating through the perforations to depict Christ’s sweat of blood and bleeding through the slices as if His blood splattered around.
